Illicit trafficking radionu-clides are not only since september 2001 a real issue. For instance in Germany there were sev-eral cases of illegal plutonium reported since a couple of years. The last spectular case was in Karlsruhe, where Pluto-nium was stolen. Berthold has designed an extremly sensitive plutonium monitor based on fission neutron detection. This technique is very effective, because the neutrons can hardly be shielded.

But there are also prod- ucts to search and identify gamma emitters. With the help of gamma spectroscopy radionuclides can be identified. Since recently we have a hand- held gamma spectrometer LB125 based on a NaI scintillation detector. This instruments is easy to be used especially for appli- cations in customs, police and military.
